Zol Jad emerged from Skopje in 2020 as a solitary black metal project shaped by introspection, existential tension, and a stark, personal approach to darkness. The name itself—meaning “evil woe”—captures the project’s thematic core: an exploration of suffering, imbalance, and the philosophical weight of human experience. Behind the project stands Jad, a prolific figure in the Macedonian underground whose past involvement in numerous extreme metal acts has given him a broad creative foundation.
From the outset, Zol Jad embraced a raw yet reflective form of black metal, blending traditional harshness with a more atmospheric, emotionally charged undercurrent. The debut demo Evil Woe (2020) introduced this aesthetic with unfiltered production, sharp riffing, and lyrics centered on internal conflict and metaphysical struggle. The release circulated through underground channels and was noted for its sincerity and for Jad’s ability to channel personal turmoil into a cohesive sonic identity.
Zol Jad’s evolution continued with the EP RamnoteĹľa (2025), whose title translates to “Equilibrium.” This work expanded the project’s philosophical dimension, exploring the tension between chaos and balance, despair and clarity. Musically, it demonstrated a more mature approach: layered guitars, more deliberate pacing, and a heightened sense of atmosphere without abandoning the rawness that defines the project. Underground listeners and regional zines highlighted the EP as a significant step forward, praising its emotional depth and the project’s refusal to conform to genre clichĂ©s.
Jad’s extensive background—spanning bands such as Demency, Saidon, Beyond the Horizon, Carnage Dominion, and others—has shaped Zol Jad into a project that stands apart within the Macedonian scene. Rather than focusing on traditional black metal themes, Zol Jad turns inward, using the genre as a vehicle for philosophical reflection and personal catharsis. The project remains active, continuing to develop its voice within a small but dedicated national underground.
