Aethernum was founded in 2014 as a collaboration between musicians scattered across Bari, Novara, and Pescara, united by a shared devotion to melodic black metal shaped by anti‑cosmic philosophy and a deep fascination with darkness as a metaphysical force. From the beginning, the project distinguished itself through a sound that fused sharp, aggressive riffing with somber melodic lines and an atmosphere steeped in esoteric tension. Their approach reflects the lineage of Italian black metal while pushing toward a more expansive, modern expression—cold, ritualistic, and emotionally charged.

The band’s creative core is built around three prolific figures of the Italian underground. Veirg, responsible for guitars and lyrics, brings a history of introspective and depressive black metal projects, channeling a writing style that is both melodic and corrosive. Hyàkrisht, handling vocals and drums, contributes a dynamic, expressive performance shaped by years of experience across multiple extreme metal acts, balancing ferocity with ritualistic cadence. Bassist Azghâl, one of the most active musicians in the Italian scene, anchors the sound with a dense, brooding low end that reinforces the band’s thematic gravity.

Aethernum’s signing to Pest Productions marked a significant step, aligning them with a label known for atmospheric and boundary‑pushing black metal. Their debut full‑length Chaosborne (2025) crystallizes the band’s identity: a work defined by melodic intensity, occult overtones, and a sense of cosmic dissolution.
