Anchoret is a Serbian black metal project founded in 2022 in Belgrade by the musician KG, a figure well‑known throughout the international underground for his involvement in numerous extreme metal acts. Despite its recent formation, Anchoret immediately positioned itself within the darker, more introspective branch of black metal, characterized by raw production, ritualistic repetition, and a stark, solitary atmosphere. The project’s name reflects its essence: isolation, withdrawal, and the pursuit of inner depths through harsh, ascetic soundscapes.
Both demos released in 2022—I and II—present Anchoret’s foundational aesthetic: cold, stripped‑down black metal built on hypnotic riffing, cavernous vocals, and a sense of spiritual austerity. The music carries echoes of the orthodox black metal tradition, yet remains firmly personal, shaped by KG’s distinctive approach to atmosphere and tension. Underground listeners and zine reviewers have noted the project’s ability to evoke a feeling of metaphysical confinement, as if the music were carved from the walls of a monastic cell.
Anchoret’s sound also reflects KG’s broader artistic lineage, drawing subtle influence from the ritualistic intensity of Barshasketh, the atmospheric weight of Bròn, and the raw ferocity of Belliciste—projects in which he has played key roles. However, Anchoret stands apart as one of his most minimalistic and inward‑focused creations, emphasizing mood over complexity and spiritual severity over aggression.
