Anew is a Portuguese symphonic black metal project active in the underground and built around the solitary work of PP, who performs all instruments and vocals. The project emerged with a clear focus on atmosphere, grandeur, and melodic intensity, blending traditional black metal aggression with orchestral layers and a sense of dramatic, ritualistic scale. Its identity is defined by sweeping arrangements, cinematic tension, and a cold, imposing aesthetic that aligns with the more esoteric edge of symphonic black metal.

The first release, the demo Voidust (2015), introduced Anew’s foundational sound: raw yet ambitious, driven by keyboards, tremolo‑picked melodies, and a strong emphasis on mood. It established the project as a solitary but fully realized creative vision, already leaning toward the epic and the atmospheric.

Anew’s full‑length Dethroned in Ruins (2023) represents a significant expansion of that vision. Released digitally through Malignus Productions, the album unfolds across seven tracks, each titled numerically, forming a continuous, ritual‑like progression. Its structure emphasizes immersion over narrative, using orchestral layers, harsh textures, and dynamic shifts to create a sense of ascension and collapse. The record’s symphonic elements are not decorative but integral, shaping a sound that feels both monumental and desolate.

Across its discography, Anew remains defined by solitude, atmosphere, and symphonic intensity, crafting black metal that is both expansive and introspective, rooted in a singular artistic voice.
