Assassination was a short‑lived Serbian black metal project formed in 2002 in Belgrade, active during the early wave of raw, underground black metal emerging from the region in the 2000s. The band embraced a minimalist, lo‑fi aesthetic centered on darkness, bleak atmospheres, and a stripped‑down approach to songwriting. Their music reflected the era’s fascination with primitive black metal expression—harsh guitars, cold repetition, and an unpolished sound that emphasized mood over technicality.

The project’s first release, the single Darkraventhrone (2003), introduced Assassination’s raw and shadow‑drenched style. The track circulated within the Serbian underground and helped establish the band’s presence among local black metal circles. In 2004, the EP Darkraventhrone was reissued through Metropolis Records/Promotion, giving the material slightly wider exposure and solidifying its status as the band’s defining work.

Assassination’s sound was shaped primarily by multi‑instrumentalist Boris Todorović, whose solitary approach gave the project a focused, personal character. His collaboration with vocalist Bethor added a harsher, more aggressive edge, aligning the band with the darker, more abrasive side of the Serbian black metal spectrum. Despite their brief activity, Assassination contributed to the early development of Belgrade’s underground scene, leaving behind a small but memorable footprint.

The band eventually dissolved, with its members moving on to other projects within the Serbian extreme metal landscape. Though their discography is limited, Assassination remains a relic of the raw, formative years of Serbian black metal—an example of the uncompromising DIY spirit that defined the era.
