Aura Mortis is a Serbian black metal project founded in 2013, devoted to a harsh, uncompromising vision of darkness, death, and occult philosophy. Emerging from Velika Plana, the band quickly aligned itself with the rawer, more esoteric branch of Serbian black metal—cold, aggressive, and ritualistic, yet marked by a sense of disciplined intent. Their aesthetic is reinforced by a logo crafted by Christophe Szpajdel, signaling the project’s alignment with the traditionalist, occult‑leaning lineage of the genre.

The early demo Vast Perdition of Souls (2014) introduced Aura Mortis with a sound steeped in misanthropy and spiritual hostility. The release showcased Maledictor’s solitary vision: sharp, frostbitten riffing, relentless drumming, and an atmosphere of ritual desecration. That same year, the split The Paths of Forefathers expanded the project’s underground presence, situating Aura Mortis among other rising Serbian acts.

In 2016, the split Iniquitous Unification marked a transitional moment. Maledictor remained the project’s core, but the addition of Pakost as vocalist brought a new dimension—more venomous, commanding, and theatrically hateful. This lineup shift set the stage for the band’s strongest period.

The EP Proclamation of the Sardonic Flame (2017) solidified Aura Mortis’ identity: raw yet deliberate, steeped in occult symbolism, and driven by a sense of ritualistic purpose. The band’s contributions to compilations such as Serbian Black Metal Compilation (2017) and Black Metal Compilation Vol. 1 (2018) further cemented their place within the national scene.

In 2020, the compilation Tractates of Initiation gathered early material, presenting it as a cohesive document of the band’s formative years. This release bridged the gap to their first full‑length, Aion Teleos (2022), a work that demonstrated significant evolution. The album is more structured, atmospheric, and thematically unified, exploring esoteric death, metaphysical transformation, and the darker strata of occult philosophy. Critics in underground circles praised its maturity and its balance between raw aggression and ritualistic depth.

Aura Mortis stands today as one of Serbia’s more focused and thematically coherent black metal acts—unyielding, esoteric, and steeped in the shadows of death and occultism.
