Bezdan—named after the Serbian word for abyss, a bottomless void—emerged in 2015 as one of the darker, more atmospheric forces in the newer wave of Serbian black metal. Rooted in occult hostility and cavernous, ritualistic darkness, the band’s sound leans toward the raw and shadow‑drenched side of the genre: cold riffs, echoing vocals, and a suffocating atmosphere that mirrors the project’s name.
Their first release, Rehearsal Demo 2017, captured Bezdan in its embryonic, unfiltered form—harsh, minimalistic, and steeped in the aesthetics of underground Serbian black metal. The demo circulated quietly but effectively, establishing the band’s presence within the regional scene.
The EP Spirits of the Past (2018) marked a significant step forward, presenting a more focused and atmospheric approach. The release blended traditional black metal aggression with occult overtones and a sense of spectral melancholy. Its title reflects the band’s thematic fixation on ancestral shadows, forgotten rites, and the lingering presence of the dead.
Bezdan also contributed the track “Iz crnila (From Blackness)” to the 2020 compilation Underground Muzika: Tajne Mape Podzemlja 1, further embedding themselves within the Serbian underground network.
Though the band maintains a low public profile, their alignment with Wolfspell Records and their steady, deliberate output suggest a project committed to depth rather than quantity—an abyss that reveals itself slowly, through darkness and ritual.
