Black Aeons is a melodic black/death metal project from Otterberg, founded in 2002 and long driven almost entirely by the solitary vision of Blackheart13, who composed and performed all instruments for more than two decades. The project’s sound blends the cold ferocity of melodic black metal with the muscular riffing and dramatic tension of melodic death metal, shaped by lyrical themes that move between death, warfare, Norse and Viking imagery, and the mythic world of ancient Greece. For years, Black Aeons existed as a studio‑bound one‑man force, defined by its raw independence and a steadily evolving melodic sensibility.
From its inception, Black Aeons was built around Blackheart13’s multi‑instrumental approach, resulting in a sound that was both personal and uncompromising. Across early recordings and numerous unreleased or private works, he refined a style marked by sharp melodic lines, harsh vocals, and a dark, mythic atmosphere. This long solitary phase culminated in the compilation Demos (2022), which gathered material from the project’s formative years and offered a retrospective look at its evolution.
A major shift occurred in 2023, when Black Aeons expanded beyond its one‑man origins. Drummer Alex joined first, followed by a brief period with guitarist JĂĽrgen G. as the project transitioned toward a full lineup. This expansion allowed the music to grow in scope and intensity, paving the way for the project’s first wave of official studio releases.
In 2024, Black Aeons released three singles—Into Darkness and Decay, Shadow of a Dying Light, and All Life Gone—each showcasing a sharpened melodic black/death hybrid with more dynamic arrangements and a clearer, heavier production. These tracks led directly into the project’s long‑awaited debut full‑length.
The album Entering the Shadows (2024) marked a milestone: the first full‑length in over twenty years of existence. It brought together the project’s defining elements—melodic aggression, mythic darkness, and a sense of looming decay—while benefiting from the expanded lineup’s energy and precision. The record stands as the clearest expression of Black Aeons’ identity, balancing atmosphere with force and melody with bleak thematic weight.
In 2025, Black Aeons solidified into a complete band with the addition of:
This formation marks the project’s most collaborative and instrumentally rich phase, transforming Black Aeons from a solitary studio entity into a fully realized melodic black/death metal band capable of broader creative development and live performance.
Black Aeons is defined by:
After more than two decades of underground persistence, Black Aeons has emerged as a fully formed force, carrying its early solitary spirit into a new era of collective strength.
