Clockwork Stories is an instrumental project from Wolframs‑Eschenbach, Bavaria, created and entirely composed by multi‑instrumentalist Skoll Greywolf. Emerging without a formally documented founding year, the project quickly established a distinctive identity built on cinematic atmosphere, melancholic doom textures, and melodic death metal dynamics. Skoll’s approach blends heavy, downtuned riffing with sweeping ambient layers, electronic pulses, and narrative‑driven arrangements, resulting in music that feels both introspective and expansive—often described by listeners as “soundtracks to worlds that don’t exist yet.”

The project’s first release, the single Disconnection (2023), introduced Clockwork Stories’ core aesthetic: dense, emotive guitar work intertwined with atmospheric electronics and a strong sense of motion. Later that year, the debut full‑length Voidlights expanded this palette into a fully realized sonic universe. The album was noted in underground circles for its immersive production and its ability to shift fluidly between crushing heaviness and ethereal calm, all without the use of vocals. Reviewers highlighted Skoll’s skill in crafting instrumental narratives that evoke isolation, cosmic wonder, and emotional catharsis.

In 2024, Clockwork Stories entered an extraordinarily prolific phase, releasing multiple full‑length albums that explored different conceptual and stylistic territories. Dredge delved into darker, more oppressive atmospheres, with slow‑burning doom passages and mechanical rhythmic patterns. Descend to Digitalism embraced a more futuristic and cybernetic aesthetic, weaving electronic textures into melodic death metal frameworks. Time broadened the project’s emotional range, incorporating reflective, almost post‑rock‑like passages alongside heavier segments.

The Lost in Gravity series—Book II: Hivemind, Book III: Space Oddities, and Book IV: Fire & Ice—formed a multi‑chapter instrumental saga exploring themes of cosmic drift, psychological fragmentation, and elemental conflict. Each installment offered a distinct sonic identity: Hivemind with its dense, interconnected motifs; Space Oddities with its expansive, astral ambience; and Fire & Ice with its dramatic contrasts and cinematic tension. Together, these albums showcased Skoll Greywolf’s ability to build cohesive conceptual arcs across multiple releases while maintaining a consistent emotional core.

Clockwork Stories remains an independent and highly individualistic project, driven entirely by Skoll’s creative vision. Its instrumental nature allows the music to function as both atmospheric immersion and narrative suggestion, appealing to listeners drawn to cinematic metal, atmospheric doom, and emotionally rich instrumental storytelling.
