Cosmic Isolation was founded in 2015 in Hesse as one of the many creative vessels of the prolific underground musician Draakh‑Xul, known for his involvement in numerous raw, atmospheric, and occult‑leaning black metal projects. From the outset, Cosmic Isolation embraced a cold, space‑bound aesthetic, merging ambient soundscapes with minimalist black metal structures to create a sense of vast emptiness and cosmic dread. The project’s thematic focus on conspiracy theories, extraterrestrial isolation, and the oppressive silence of the void shaped its sonic identity—music that feels distant, desolate, and suspended between reality and the unknown.

The project’s sole full‑length, Return of the Cold Blooded Race (2017), stands as its defining statement. The album blends icy tremolo riffs, cavernous ambience, and hypnotic repetition, evoking the sensation of drifting through abandoned star systems or listening to transmissions from a dying world. Underground listeners praised the record for its stark atmosphere and its ability to conjure imagery of cosmic desolation without relying on traditional black metal aggression. The production is intentionally raw and distant, reinforcing the project’s themes of isolation and the cold indifference of space.

Draakh‑Xul’s characteristic style—present across his other projects such as Blackest, Moorgeist, Necro Forest, Ruins of Unlight, Weligor, and Winterfullmoon—is evident here: a preference for lo‑fi textures, ritualistic pacing, and an emphasis on mood over technicality. Cosmic Isolation, however, stands apart for its uniquely extraterrestrial focus, channeling paranoia, cosmic horror, and the allure of forbidden knowledge into a single, cohesive vision.

The project remained active until 2022, after which no further material or updates surfaced. Though short‑lived, Cosmic Isolation left a distinct mark within the German ambient black metal underground, remembered for its chilling atmosphere, its thematic singularity, and its ability to transform cosmic emptiness into a haunting musical experience.
