Diagonal de Sangre is one of Paraguay’s longest‑running and most extreme underground acts, active since 2008 and known for its violent fusion of death metal, black metal, and grindcore. Their sound is rooted in the chaotic, politically charged, and gore‑obsessed tradition of South American extremity, combining frantic riffing, blast‑driven percussion, and deranged vocal delivery. The band’s thematic focus spans war, mutilation, anti‑religious hostility, historical violence, and psychological collapse—elements reflected both in their lyrics and in their abrasive, confrontational aesthetic.
Their earliest material, including the 2008 demo Paraguay – Esclavitud – Jamás!! and the 2009 live demo Vocación de distorsión – Live at Necro Blasphemy II, captures the band in a raw, unfiltered state. These recordings document the early Paraguayan underground scene with primitive sound quality, chaotic execution, and a militant attitude. The 2011 demo Tortura al obispo further cemented their reputation for extreme, gore‑soaked themes and relentless sonic violence.
Diagonal de Sangre gained wider underground recognition through their participation in the 2010 compilation Homenaje a la Historia del Rock en Paraguay, contributing two Disincarnated covers—“Corporal Seething Trituration Specimen” and “Gradual Wild Decrepitude”—which showcased their grindcore roots and their ability to reinterpret classic Paraguayan extreme metal with even greater brutality.
Their first full‑length album, Canibal deseo primitivo del feto abortado (2018), stands as the band’s most ambitious and notorious release. The album delivers a barrage of death‑grind ferocity, grotesque imagery, and blackened atmospheres, blending technical aggression with a raw, underground ethos. Its themes revolve around cannibalism, primal violence, and anti‑religious desecration, pushing the extremity of their earlier demos into a more structured yet still savage form.
In 2022, the band returned with the demo Del culo a la boca, reaffirming their commitment to gore‑grind filth and blackened hostility. The release continues their tradition of provocative titles, abrasive production, and a sonic palette that refuses any form of compromise or polish.
Diagonal de Sangre’s lineup includes musicians deeply embedded in Paraguay’s extreme metal network, many of whom are active in multiple projects across black, death, and grind scenes. Their longevity, prolific involvement in the underground, and unwavering dedication to extremity have made them a staple of Paraguayan extreme metal for over fifteen years.
