Draugaskógur is a new and deliberately enigmatic Serbian black metal entity, founded in 2024 and immediately aligned with the occult, nocturnal, and ritualistic side of the genre. Emerging with a fully realized aesthetic, the project channels themes of necromancy, night‑bound rites, and demonological lore, crafting a sound steeped in spectral atmosphere and esoteric darkness. Though only one release has surfaced so far, Draugaskógur has already positioned itself within the modern wave of occult‑oriented black metal that favors trance‑inducing repetition, ritual ambience, and a raw yet immersive sonic palette.

The debut EP Fullmoon Hypnotic Ritual (2025) serves as the project’s first invocation—a work built around hypnotic riff cycles, cavernous vocals, and an atmosphere thick with lunar mysticism. Early underground listeners describe the EP as a nocturnal rite captured on tape: cold, shadowed, and driven by a sense of spiritual possession. The music leans heavily on atmosphere without abandoning the aggression and sharpness of traditional black metal, creating a balance between ritual ambience and feral energy. Its production is intentionally unpolished, enhancing the feeling of a clandestine ceremony unfolding in the dead of night.

Draugaskógur’s aesthetic draws from the darker, more arcane lineage of Balkan black metal, yet its thematic focus on necromantic and demonological currents gives it a distinct identity. The project’s association with Inferna Profundus Records—known for supporting raw, occult, and uncompromising black metal—further situates Draugaskógur within a tradition of underground extremity and spiritual darkness.

With Vampiru Kista handling all instruments and vocals, the project maintains a solitary, hermetic creative approach. This single‑minded vision contributes to the EP’s cohesion and intensity, suggesting a project driven by personal ritual rather than scene participation. Though still in its early stages, Draugaskógur has already established a clear artistic direction, and its future releases are likely to deepen its exploration of nocturnal sorcery and otherworldly atmospheres.
