Biography

Egestas was an Italian post‑black metal and hardcore‑influenced project from the Emilia‑Romagna area (Modena/Bologna), active from 2016 until its dissolution. The band embraced a hybrid, abrasive sound that merged black metal’s intensity with the urgency and structural freedom of hardcore, avoiding strict genre boundaries in favor of a raw, expressive approach. Their lyrical themes revolved around birth, death, and rebirth, reflecting a cyclical and existential perspective.

Formed as a five‑member collective, Egestas developed a reputation for blending suffocating atmospheres with aggressive rhythmic shifts. Descriptions of the band emphasize their identity as a “five‑headed hydra” committed to musical hybridism, drawing from the members’ diverse influences to create a sound that was both punishing and emotionally charged.

Their primary release, Oltre le rovine (2019), showcased this fusion of black metal and hardcore punk, pairing harsh vocals with dense guitar work and a bleak, confrontational tone. The album was supported by independent Italian labels and accompanied by a music video for the track “Trafficanti di ombre,” which further highlighted their gritty aesthetic and politically tinged visual language.

Though their discography is small, Egestas left a distinct mark within Italy’s underground by pushing the intersection of black metal and hardcore into a raw, cathartic form that reflected both personal and social turmoil.
