Frostreich began in 2010 as the personal vision of Wynthar, who has remained the sole creative force behind the project since its inception. Emerging first from Salzgitter before later relocating to Frankfurt, Frostreich carved out a place in the German post‑black metal underground with a sound defined by emotional bleakness, atmospheric layering, and a strong sense of existential weight.

The early demo Imperium der Zeit (2011) introduced Frostreich’s raw, melancholic foundation—icy tremolo lines, introspective melodies, and a pervasive sense of solitude. This groundwork expanded dramatically on the debut full‑length Geistfahrt (2013), where the project’s atmospheric tendencies deepened into something more immersive and narrative‑driven.

With Stella Polaris (2014), Frostreich refined its post‑black metal identity, weaving together themes of misanthropy, nature, and inner decay with a colder, more expansive sound. The 2017 album Join the Wind marked the project’s most mature and emotionally resonant work to date—an album steeped in drifting melancholy, existential reflection, and the windswept textures that define Wynthar’s compositional style.

Throughout all releases, Frostreich has remained a solitary endeavor, shaped entirely by Wynthar’s instrumentation, vocals, and production. His involvement in Harvst further situates him within the German atmospheric and post‑black metal landscape, but Frostreich stands as his most personal and introspective creation.

Frostreich remains an active and quietly powerful presence—solitary, atmospheric, and deeply rooted in the emotional landscapes of post‑black metal.
