Greul is a Hamburg‑based symphonic black metal project founded in 2019, driven entirely by the prolific multi‑instrumentalist Thorkraft. The project’s aesthetic is steeped in witchcraft, occult ritual, and nocturnal mysticism—an atmosphere reinforced by sweeping orchestral arrangements layered over raw black‑metal foundations. Greul’s music blends icy riffing, ritualistic melodies, and dramatic symphonic elements, creating a sound that is both theatrical and steeped in traditional German black‑metal darkness.

Their debut full‑length Im Zirkel der Hexen (2020) stands as a concentrated expression of this vision: a work built on swirling keyboards, relentless percussion, and an occult narrative centered on witch circles, nocturnal rites, and esoteric power. The album also reflects Thorkraft’s signature style—dense, atmospheric, and unmistakably rooted in the German underground.

Greul’s presence in the scene was further solidified through the compilation Black Metal Propaganda Vol. 4 (2020), where the track Die Nacht der Hexen appeared, aligning the project with other acts exploring similarly occult and ritualistic themes.
