In Cold Silence is a Serbian black metal project rooted in the early 2000s underground, originally emerging from the ashes of Nokturnal—a band that never released official material but was active in the local live circuit. Founded by Fog and Mrki (Perseus), the project took shape in 2002, carrying forward Nokturnal’s earliest ideas, including the first draft of “Eternal Winter’s Night,” which would later become one of their defining early compositions.
The band’s sound is steeped in traditional black metal aesthetics: cold riffing, melancholic atmospheres, and a raw, unembellished production style that reflects the emotional starkness of their themes. Their music draws heavily on winter imagery, solitude, and introspective darkness, aligning them with the early 2000s Serbian black metal movement, which favored authenticity and atmosphere over technical polish.
Their first official release, the Demo (2004), circulated through tape‑trading networks and local scenes, earning the band a small but dedicated following. The demo showcased a blend of icy tremolo lines, mournful melodic passages, and Fog’s characteristic vocal delivery—harsh, distant, and emotionally charged. During this period, the lineup included several musicians who would go on to play in prominent Serbian extreme metal acts such as The Stone, Infest, Consecration, and May Result, making In Cold Silence a notable node in the region’s interconnected black metal community.
After disbanding in 2007, the project remained dormant for nearly two decades. In 2024, Fog and Perseus revived In Cold Silence, returning with renewed creative focus and a desire to reclaim their place in the Serbian underground. Their comeback release, Live Klub Doma omladine (2024), captures the raw energy of their reactivated lineup and marks the beginning of a new chapter for the band. The performance highlights both early material and newly refined interpretations, reaffirming their commitment to a cold, melancholic black metal aesthetic.
The band continues to operate independently, maintaining a direct connection with listeners through DIY channels and personal contact. Their revival has been met with enthusiasm from long‑time followers of the Serbian scene, who regard In Cold Silence as a cult name from an era of formative underground activity.
