Kletva (“curse” or “spell” in Serbian) is a raw and uncompromising black metal band from Koceljeva, originally active between 2005 and 2007 before returning in 2015 with a renewed and more focused vision. From the beginning, the band embraced a harsh, primitive sound rooted in the early traditions of Serbian black metal—cold riffs, stripped‑down structures, and an atmosphere steeped in darkness, malevolence, and ritualistic hostility.
The early era of Kletva was marked by a fiercely underground approach, with their first recording Pod Ĺľrtvenim mesecom (2006) released in extremely limited quantities. This early material established the band’s aesthetic: lo‑fi production, relentless drumming, and a vocal delivery that channeled pure aggression. Their themes revolved around evil, destruction, and the oppressive presence of darkness—delivered without embellishment or compromise.
After disbanding in 2007, Kletva remained dormant until 2015, when founding members I and Vek Apsolut resurrected the project. The revived lineup brought a more refined but still raw approach, maintaining the band’s original spirit while expanding their songwriting and atmospheric depth. Their 2020 demo Nadvila se propast marked their official return, offering a bleak, aggressive sound that resonated strongly within the Serbian underground.
In 2021, Kletva released a series of singles—Tronovi ambisa, Iz tame, and VeÄŤna vladavina zla—each reinforcing their commitment to traditional black metal aesthetics. These tracks showcased sharper production, more dynamic riffing, and a stronger sense of thematic cohesion, all while retaining the rawness that defines the band’s identity. The singles were well‑received in underground circles, praised for their authenticity and adherence to the uncompromising spirit of Serbian black metal.
Kletva continues to operate independently, maintaining a low profile and relying on direct communication and underground networks. Their work stands as a testament to the enduring power of raw black metal in Serbia—dark, hostile, and unwavering in its devotion to the genre’s core principles.
