Lord Abaddon

Formed: 1993
Genre: Atmospheric / Ambient Black Metal
Status: Split‑up

Lord Abaddon was an early atmospheric/ambient black‑metal project from Suhl, active during the formative years of the German underground. Emerging in 1993, the project embraced a raw, primitive, and deeply atmospheric approach—lo‑fi textures, cavernous ambience, and a sense of occult desolation that aligned with the era’s fascination with mysticism and isolation. The name “Abaddon,” drawn from the Bible as both a place of destruction and the angel of the abyss, reflects the project’s thematic leanings toward ruin, darkness, and spiritual void.

Their sole known release, the 1994 demo I.T.E.L.A.S.O.T.M.M., stands as a relic of early German atmospheric black metal—minimalist, obscure, and steeped in the cold ambience characteristic of the mid‑90s underground. While little is known about the project’s lifespan or activities beyond this recording, Lord Abaddon’s work remains a small but intriguing fragment of Thuringia’s black‑metal history.
