Midwinter was a symphonic black/heavy metal band from Düsseldorf, active throughout the late 90s and 2000s. Their sound fused dramatic keyboard‑driven atmospheres with heavy‑metal riffing, gothic overtones, and lyrical themes steeped in vampirism, death, and dark fantasy. They became known for their theatrical approach—lush keyboards, dual‑guitar interplay, and a vocal style that shifted from harsh black‑metal delivery to more narrative, dramatic tones.

Their early demo Loss of Light (2000) quickly gained underground attention, praised for its melodic strength and symphonic scope. The band’s two full‑length albums, Astral Mirrors (2003) and Between Wisdom and Lunacy (2006), expanded their sound with more ambitious arrangements and a stronger emphasis on storytelling. Compilation appearances throughout the early 2000s helped cement their presence in the German symphonic black‑metal scene.

In 2007, Midwinter announced their dissolution, performing two final shows in DĂĽsseldorf and Aachen before disbanding.
