Монах (“Monk”) is a modern Serbian black metal project from Lebane, active since 2019 and rooted in a stark, aggressive, and ritualistic approach to the genre. Despite the name’s monastic connotations, the project’s thematic direction is explicitly anti‑religious—fixated on Satanism, death, and spiritual inversion. Монах belongs to the newer wave of southern‑Serbian black metal: raw, direct, and driven by a small circle of highly active underground musicians.
The band debuted in 2019 with a self‑titled EP, a release that established their sound as harsh, stripped‑down black metal with a focus on atmosphere through repetition and intensity rather than elaborate arrangements. The production is intentionally raw, capturing the immediacy of the project’s early creative burst. Their track “Оковани поглед” appeared on Extreme Animal Feast 2 (2020), placing them alongside other extreme underground acts from the region.
Монах is built around a duo:
Wolf — responsible for guitars, bass, and drums, a prolific multi‑instrumentalist active in numerous Serbian underground projects (Enchanted Sword, Soul Butcher, Strahor, A.VOID, Aen Seidhe, Razočarenje). His characteristic style—icy riffs, sharp rhythmic structures, and a DIY ethos—forms the backbone of Монах’s sound.
Monk — vocalist, known for his work across a wide spectrum of extreme and experimental acts (Morana, Gnar, Grba, MKZP, Mučin, Switchblade, and many more). His vocal delivery is harsh, unhinged, and steeped in the chaotic energy that defines much of southern Serbia’s underground.
Together, they create a sound that is both primitive and purposeful: a ritualistic black metal expression emerging from the margins of the Serbian scene, shaped by the region’s characteristic rawness and uncompromising attitude.
