Mondvolland was a Dutch folk/black metal band from Arnhem, Gelderland, active from 2006 to 2014, devoted to transforming local folk stories, regional history, and Gelderland’s landscape into a raw, atmospheric form of black metal. Their early work blended folk instrumentation and melodic passages with harsh vocals and pagan themes, but over time their sound evolved into a darker, more streamlined black‑metal approach while retaining the narrative focus that defined their identity. The band’s name—referring to a “moonlit land”—captured their fascination with nocturnal rural imagery, forgotten legends, and the eerie stillness of the Dutch countryside.

Their discography traces a clear artistic arc: from the early demo De roep der gevallen helden (2007) and the rehearsal tape of 2008, through the folk‑infused EP …daar naast de Urthensula! (2009) and the debut full‑length d’Olde roop (2010), to the more aggressive and atmospheric later works Pestvogel (2012) and Kwade vaart (2014). The band also contributed three tracks—“Montferland I,” “II,” and “III”—to the international compilation One and All, Together, for Home (Season of Mist, 2014), a release that highlighted their deep connection to regional heritage.

The final lineup—Mickeal Schuurman, MJWW, Nico, and Bauke Valstar—brought together musicians active across the Dutch underground, many of whom later continued in projects such as Bezwering, Alvader, Semistereo, and Erscheinung. Mondvolland disbanded in 2014, leaving behind a small but distinctive body of work that stands out for its commitment to local myth, rural atmosphere, and a uniquely Dutch interpretation of folk‑infused black metal.
