Morgulis is a solitary black metal project from Kragujevac, active since 2018 and shaped entirely by its sole member, Infreol. The project sits within the atmospheric and introspective wing of Serbian black metal—raw, melancholic, and rooted in themes of pagan identity and personal despair. The name itself evokes an archaic, mythic resonance, fitting the project’s blend of spiritual bleakness and folkloric undertones.
Morgulis’ only known release, the 2020 demo Whispers from a Dead Man, presents a lo‑fi, emotionally heavy sound built on cold tremolo riffs, distant vocals, and a sense of isolation that defines much of the Serbian underground’s one‑man output. The demo’s atmosphere leans toward depressive black metal, but with a pagan, earth‑bound quality that sets it apart from purely DSBM‑oriented projects. It feels like a solitary ritual—intimate, unpolished, and sincere.
Though information about Morgulis is sparse, the project’s aesthetic places it firmly within the newer generation of Ĺ umadija black metal: personal, atmospheric, and fiercely independent. With Infreol handling all instruments and production, Morgulis remains a deeply individual expression, operating far from the spotlight and aligned with the raw, DIY ethos of the region.
