Myrkvar formed in Bergen in 2018 as a melodic black metal project shaped by a sharp, cold riffing style and a modern Norwegian sensibility, channeling a sound that is direct, aggressive, and rooted in clarity rather than rawness. From the beginning the band focused on tightly constructed melodies and a streamlined approach to songwriting, favoring precision and momentum over atmospheric sprawl. Their debut single Naglet til et kors på jorden (2019) introduced this aesthetic with a blend of driving riffs and a stark melodic edge, setting the tone for their first full‑length.

With Psalmtanic Verses (2020), Myrkvar solidified their identity through a more expansive and confident expression of melodic black metal, marked by crisp production, disciplined structures, and a cold, assertive tone. Active independently, the band continues to represent a newer wave of Bergen black metal—melodic, focused, and shaped by a contemporary interpretation of the genre’s traditional intensity.
