Praznina (“emptiness,” “void”) is one of the most striking new voices in the contemporary Serbian black metal underground—a project born in 2022 in Ada and immediately defined by a stark, philosophical hostility. Rather than leaning on traditional Satanic or pagan tropes, Praznina operates in a realm of esoteric nihilism, psychological disintegration, and the pursuit of “wisdom through suffering.” The result is a sound that feels both modern and deeply introspective: raw, atmospheric, and emotionally severe.
From the outset, Praznina released material with unusual intensity. Their twin 2022 EPs—Podsvesno mrtav and NedostiĹľni zenit—established the project’s core aesthetic: cold riffing, anguished vocals, and a lyrical focus on the dissolution of self, the futility of existence, and the metaphysics of suffering. These two works were later combined into the 2023 compilation Podsvesno mrtav / NedostiĹľni zenit, which helped solidify their early identity.
The 2023 full‑length ÄŚovek koji nije (“The Man Who Is Not”) marked a major leap forward. It is a cohesive, conceptually unified descent into anti‑life philosophy—bleak, articulate, and emotionally devastating. The album’s reception (highly rated even within a niche scene) reflects how quickly Praznina has carved out a distinct voice.
Their 2024 singles—Ples zaborava, Further Down the Nest I, and Lament—continue this trajectory, each one a fragment of the same void‑oriented worldview: introspective, wounded, and spiritually corrosive.
Praznina’s presence in compilations such as SlavaSvetlu / SluĹľbaTami and the Serbian Metal Compilation helped introduce them to a wider underground audience, especially through tracks like “ObliÄŤje i ništavilo” and “NedostiĹľni zenit.”
At the center of the project is Deimos, a multi‑instrumentalist whose work in Ljuska and Todesfall already hinted at a fascination with psychological and metaphysical darkness. Praznina is his most distilled expression of that impulse.
