Sepulcros is an atmospheric death/doom metal band from Lisbon, formed in 2018 and devoted to a sound steeped in death, sorrow, and decadence. Their music is built on cavernous riffs, oppressive tension, and a funereal sense of descent, placing them firmly within the lineage of modern funeral‑tinged death/doom while retaining a distinctly Portuguese emotional weight. From their earliest appearances, the band cultivated an aura of bleakness and ritual gravity, channeling slow, crushing structures and guttural vocals into a suffocating, immersive atmosphere.

Their debut full‑length Vazio (2021) established them as one of the most striking new acts on Transcending Obscurity Records. The album unfolds as a descent into abyssal spaces, blending death metal heaviness with the sparse, monolithic pacing of funeral doom. Reviews describe it as a “catabase abyssale” and a work of “charnel brutality,” marked by unnerving samples, crushing riffs, and an ambience of misery and solitude. Tracks like “Magno Caos” and “Hecatombe” highlight the band’s ability to merge oppressive weight with atmospheric depth, creating a sound that feels both vast and claustrophobic.

Sepulcros’ approach emphasizes immersion over ornamentation: long, deliberate compositions, guttural vocal delivery, and a production style that enhances the sense of decay and collapse. Their presence on the Transcending Obscurity sampler in 2020 helped introduce them to a wider audience, positioning them among the label’s strongest doom‑oriented acts. Vazio remains their defining statement—an album that captures the essence of death/doom as a slow, inevitable erosion, shaped by sorrow, darkness, and the weight of the void.
