Шакал

Шакал is a Novi Sad–based black metal band formed in 2021, emerging from the same regional circle that produced Wolf’s Hunger, Concrete Sun, and several interconnected Serbian underground acts. From the outset, the band positioned itself within a distinctly Slavic pagan framework, drawing on mythology, pre‑Christian cosmology, and heathen heritage as the core of its lyrical and visual identity. Their sound blends traditional black metal ferocity with melodic, ritualistic motifs, creating a style rooted in regional folklore while retaining the rawness of the Serbian underground.

The project quickly became active, releasing three singles in 2022—Коледо, Док горим, and Ја и Црнобог—each exploring different facets of Slavic mythic symbolism. These early tracks established the band’s aesthetic: sharp, cold riffing; mid‑to‑fast tempos; and vocals that alternate between harsh black metal delivery and ritualistic intonation. The same year, Šakal released their debut full‑length Јав, Прав, Нав, a conceptually structured album built around the tripartite Slavic cosmological model. The record expanded their sound with more atmospheric layering and a stronger melodic backbone, earning attention within the pagan black metal niche.

By 2023, the band underwent a significant shift in vocal duties, with Vladimir Mušicki and Veljko Ivković—both veterans of Wolf’s Hunger—taking over from founding vocalist Časlav Nicković. This lineup change coincided with a more forceful and cohesive live presence, supported by additional session members. The inclusion of bassist/vocalist Khargash, known for his extensive work across Serbian black and death metal, further solidified the band’s sonic identity.

Šakal’s music is characterized by its emphasis on Slavic ritualism, mythic dualities, and ancestral symbolism, delivered through a modern yet traditionally grounded black metal framework. Their affiliation with Werewolf Promotion situates them within a broader network of pagan and folk‑oriented black metal acts across Eastern and Central Europe. With a second full‑length, II, slated for 2025, the band continues to evolve while maintaining a strong connection to the cultural and mythological roots that define their artistic direction.
