Stonecrypt was founded in Belgrade in August 2010 by Hunter and Sothis, emerging from the same dark creative current that fueled several Serbian underground black metal acts of the early 2010s. From the beginning, the project embraced a cold, hostile, and occult‑driven aesthetic, combining traditional black metal aggression with atmospheric elements and a thematic focus on evil, historical darkness, and ritualistic symbolism. Their sound was rooted in raw riffing, icy melodies, and a stark, oppressive atmosphere that aligned them with the harsher side of the Serbian scene.

The band’s first wave of material appeared quickly: the Morbid Demo and the single Morbid Faces (both 2011) introduced Stonecrypt’s early identity—primitive, sinister, and steeped in occult imagery. That same year, they released the split Sacrifice to the Bloody Cult, which helped circulate their music through the Balkan underground and positioned them alongside other rising extreme metal acts. These early recordings were noted for their lo‑fi production and uncompromising hostility, capturing the raw spirit of the band’s formative period.

A significant shift occurred in 2013 when Hunter departed, leaving Sothis to take over guitar duties in addition to drum programming. This transition marked the beginning of Stonecrypt’s second phase, culminating in the 2014 demo Threefold Death. This release showcased a more structured and atmospheric approach, with darker melodic undertones and a deeper immersion into occult themes. The addition of Thrugg on vocals and keyboards brought a new dimension to the band’s sound—more ritualistic, more atmospheric, and more focused on thematic cohesion.

Despite the creative evolution, Stonecrypt remained a studio‑based project with limited live activity, the only known live contributor being bassist Ĺ ejtan during 2011–2012. Over time, the band’s activity slowed, and by 2019 Stonecrypt had quietly dissolved without an official announcement. Members continued their involvement in other Serbian underground projects, carrying forward the spirit of the band’s dark, occult‑driven black metal.

Though their discography is small, Stonecrypt left behind a body of work that reflects the raw, uncompromising ethos of the Belgrade black metal underground—hostile, atmospheric, and steeped in esoteric darkness.
