Thrownness is an atmospheric sludge/post‑metal project from Lisbon, formed in 2021 and shaped around themes of loss, spirituality, and existential weight. Their sound is built on slow, crushing riffs, layered textures, and a sense of emotional gravity that aligns them with the more introspective edge of post‑metal. Rather than relying on aggression, Thrownness focuses on tension, atmosphere, and the feeling of being suspended between collapse and transcendence—a reflection of the Heideggerian concept that inspires their name.

The project’s debut EP Marrow (2024) distills this vision into a single, cohesive statement. Its compositions unfold gradually, moving between dense sludge passages, meditative post‑metal expanses, and moments of near‑ritual stillness. The production emphasizes weight and space, allowing each instrument to breathe while contributing to an overarching sense of spiritual exhaustion and emotional excavation. Marrow presents loss not as melodrama but as a slow, lived process—an internal descent rendered through texture, repetition, and atmosphere.

Thrownness remains an independent project, operating with minimal public presence and letting the music speak for itself. Their work stands within the lineage of Portuguese atmospheric heaviness: introspective, patient, and rooted in the search for meaning within suffering and silence.
