TouganÄ« is a German atmospheric black metal project founded in 2021 in Bergisch Gladbach by multi‑instrumentalist and vocalist Viator. The project’s sound is rooted in the meditative, nature‑bound branch of atmospheric black metal, weaving together mist‑covered tremolo melodies, immersive ambient passages, and a strong sense of spiritual introspection. TouganÄ«’s music draws heavily on themes of forests, solitude, and melancholy, channeling a deep reverence for nature and the metaphysical quiet found within it.
The debut EP Spirits (2022) introduced TouganÄ«’s sonic identity: raw yet ethereal black metal infused with ambient textures and emotive guitar layering. The release was noted in underground circles for its atmospheric depth and its ability to evoke woodland mysticism without sacrificing the harsher edge of traditional black metal. Viator’s vocals—ranging from distant shrieks to subdued whispers—reinforced the project’s introspective and spiritual tone, while the keyboards added a spectral, ritualistic dimension.
TouganÄ« expanded into a live‑performing entity in 2023, bringing in session and later permanent musicians to translate the project’s immersive sound to the stage. Bassist and backing vocalist Leprosvs, also formerly of Syzoz, joined as a live member, adding harmonic depth and stage presence. Lead guitarist Gerileme, known for his work in Asche der Welten and Burial in the Woods, brought a more expressive melodic sensibility, enriching the project’s atmospheric layers with refined lead work. The addition of drummer Molochai in 2025 marked the transition toward a fully realized live lineup capable of delivering TouganÄ«’s expansive sound with greater dynamic force.
Despite remaining independent, Touganī has steadily grown within the German atmospheric black metal underground, appreciated for its emotional sincerity, woodland‑inspired aesthetics, and the spiritual melancholy that permeates its compositions. With a strong conceptual foundation and an evolving lineup, the project continues to develop its identity, poised for further releases that deepen its connection to nature, introspection, and the unseen world.
