Visceralgreed is a German progressive and melodic black metal project founded in 2020 in Hildesheim, Lower Saxony. The band combines the emotional intensity of modern black metal with progressive structures, melodic layering, and introspective lyrical themes. Their music explores psychological turmoil, societal decay, and the darker aspects of human nature—particularly greed, intolerance, and internalized anxiety—delivered through a blend of harsh vocals, dynamic guitar work, and atmospheric arrangements.
The project is driven by the duo Freddy and Max, both also active in the pagan black metal band Saxnot. Their experience in that scene informs Visceralgreed’s sound, but here the focus shifts toward more melodic phrasing, complex songwriting, and a polished yet emotionally raw approach. The interplay between progressive elements and black metal aggression gives the project a distinctive identity within the German underground.
Visceralgreed’s debut EP Knechtschaft und Befreiung (2024) marks their first official release, presenting a cohesive exploration of oppression, inner conflict, and the struggle for personal liberation. The EP blends sharp riffing with melancholic melodies and atmospheric passages, supported by Freddy’s multi‑instrumental work (guitars, drums, piano) and Max’s expressive vocal and bass performances. Early listeners within underground circles have noted the EP’s strong sense of narrative flow and its ability to merge emotional depth with technical precision.
Although still early in their career, Visceralgreed has already positioned itself as a promising force in the modern German black metal landscape, offering a sound that is both aggressive and reflective, rooted in personal struggle and societal critique.
