Biography

Angor Animi is a depressive and atmospheric post-black metal solo project from Pescara, Abruzzo, Italy, founded in 2014 by multi-instrumentalist Kjiel. The name — Latin for “spiritual anguish” — refers to a neuropsychiatric condition marked by the fear of imminent death, setting the tone for the project’s introspective and existential themes.

Angor Animi emerged from the Italian underground as a vessel for emotional collapse and metaphysical reflection. Blending elements of depressive black metal, ambient textures, and post-metal expansiveness, the project crafts soundscapes that evoke isolation, anxiety, and the slow unraveling of the self. The music is deeply personal, often cinematic in scope, and marked by a balance between raw aggression and melancholic beauty.

Kjiel, the sole member, is known for his work in other Italian acts such as Eyelessight, Lifeless, Notturno, and Sacrimoon, and brings a refined yet tortured sensibility to Angor Animi’s compositions. The project’s releases — including appearances on compilations like Jericho Vol.46 – Blood on Snow — reflect a commitment to emotional authenticity and sonic depth.

Signed to Talheim Records, Angor Animi continues to operate as a solitary ritual, channeling themes of death, anxiety, and spiritual dissolution through layered instrumentation and haunting atmospheres. The project stands as a testament to Italy’s rich tradition of black metal as a medium for psychological and poetic exploration.
