Dislocation is a Latvian progressive death metal band known for blending technical death metal with Middle Eastern folk elements, atmospheric textures, and socially reflective themes. The project began in the fall of 2005 under the name Exmort, founded by bassist Rihard Vershinin and drummer Renat Ragimhanov. Over time, the band evolved into a more ambitious and experimental entity, eventually adopting the name Dislocation as their sound expanded beyond traditional death metal boundaries.

From the beginning, Dislocation distinguished themselves through their incorporation of Middle Eastern scales, duduk passages, and rhythmic patterns uncommon in the Baltic metal scene. Their music balances heaviness with introspection, weaving progressive structures, melodic guitar work, and folk‑inspired motifs into a cohesive and emotionally charged whole. Lyrically, the band focuses on themes of humanity, societal decay, personal struggle, and philosophical reflection, often delivered through a blend of harsh vocals and atmospheric instrumentation.

Their debut EP XXIX (2009) introduced this hybrid sound, showcasing technical musicianship and an emerging interest in Eastern tonalities. The full‑length Sagul (2011) expanded these ideas significantly, integrating more pronounced folk instrumentation—particularly the duduk—alongside complex guitar arrangements and dynamic shifts. The album is often regarded as their most distinctive work, praised in underground circles for its originality and emotional depth.

In 2015, Dislocation released Emancipation, their last known full‑length. This album pushed their progressive tendencies further, featuring intricate compositions, expanded use of piano, and a more polished production. Emancipation explores themes of liberation, societal pressure, and internal conflict, marking the band’s most mature and conceptually cohesive release.

Despite their strong musical identity, Dislocation’s activity became unclear after 2015. Members moved on to other projects within the Latvian metal scene, and no official disbandment was announced. Their legacy remains tied to their unique fusion of death metal intensity with Middle Eastern folk color and progressive ambition—an uncommon and memorable contribution to Latvia’s extreme metal landscape.
