Dothbogria is a Latvian pagan/folk metal band formed in 2007 in Daugavpils, notable for their unusual linguistic choice: although all members are native Latvians, the band performs entirely in German. This distinctive approach, combined with their dedication to Germanic pagan themes, gives Dothbogria a unique identity within the Baltic folk metal scene. Their music blends traditional pagan metal elementsāmelodic riffing, folkāinspired motifs, and martial rhythmsāwith a raw, straightforward sound rooted in early Eastern European pagan metal traditions.
The band’s lyrical focus centers on Germanic mythology, ritual drinking culture, and the warrior ethos, delivered through harsh vocals and energetic, folkāinfused guitar work. Their compositions tend to favor midātempo, anthemālike structures, evoking the atmosphere of ancient gatherings, feasts, and battle rites. Their debut EP, Trinken der Fleisch (2011), remains their only official release to date. Over the years, Dothbogria has undergone several lineup changes, with founding member Nikolajs Loskis remaining the central creative force. Despite periods of reduced activity, the band continues to operate independently, keeping their pagan metal identity alive through live performances and ongoing work within the Daugavpils underground.
