Red Water is a Vilnius‑based post‑black metal band active since 2012, known for blending melancholic post‑metal textures with black metal intensity. Their sound leans toward emotional weight rather than aggression—layered guitars, introspective atmospheres, and vocals that oscillate between raw expression and restrained tension. Over the years, Red Water has become a quiet but persistent presence in Lithuania’s alternative metal underground, releasing material at long intervals but always with a clear sense of mood and identity.
The band debuted with a self‑titled Demo in 2014, a lo‑fi but promising introduction that showcased their early fusion of post‑rock ambience and blackened edges. Their 2015 split with 70 cm³ of Your Chest expanded their reach within the local scene, pairing them with another emotionally driven Lithuanian act and highlighting their shared affinity for atmospheric heaviness.
Red Water’s sound matured significantly with the EP No Life Left to Take (2018), a release marked by thicker production, more dynamic songwriting, and a deeper sense of emotional collapse. The follow‑up EP Curse on This World (2021) continued this trajectory, offering a darker, more refined take on their post‑black foundation—somber melodies, layered guitars, and a sense of existential weight that defines their work.
Despite lineup changes, particularly in the drum position, Red Water has maintained a consistent creative core and continues to operate as an independent, self‑directed project. Their music sits comfortably within the Lithuanian post‑black continuum alongside acts like N R C S S S T, Au‑Dessus, and other emotionally charged, atmosphere‑driven projects.
