Šturmas is a Vilnius‑based black metal/ambient project founded in 2024, centered entirely around the creative vision of Aitvaras, a multi‑instrumentalist previously active in the provocatively titled underground act Satanistų Orgija Krikščioniškų Papročių Pasipriešinimui. From its inception, Šturmas has positioned itself within the Lithuanian tradition of historically rooted black metal, drawing heavily on themes of ancient warfare, Baltic resistance, and the spiritual memory embedded in the land. The project’s sound merges raw black metal aggression with expansive ambient passages, evoking windswept battlefields, pagan fortresses, and the solemnity of ancestral burial mounds.
The debut full‑length Pilkapis (2025) established Šturmas as a rising force in the Lithuanian underground. Released through Iron Wolf Productions, the album blends harsh, militant riffing with long atmospheric movements, culminating in the 27‑minute closing piece “Mėnesienai tyliai krentant ant manojo lavono”. Thematically, the record revolves around vengeance, sacrifice, and the memory of fallen warriors—its tracklist referencing legendary sites such as Pilėnai, a symbol of Lithuanian resistance. The album’s reception within the Baltic scene highlighted its immersive atmosphere and its ability to balance historical narrative with meditative ambience. sturmas.bandcamp.com Lycanthropia.net
In the same year, Šturmas released the Krivis demo (2025) and the single “Dvasia Bedalė”, further refining the project’s blend of ritualistic ambience and stark black metal minimalism. The band also appeared on the compilation Terror upon the Scum (Iron Wolf Productions, 2025) with the track “Kraujas ant akmens”, aligning Šturmas with other emerging Lithuanian acts exploring themes of heritage and resistance. The project’s evolution continues with the forthcoming second full‑length Vėjas iš vakarų (2026), anticipated to expand the atmospheric dimension of Šturmas’ sound while maintaining its historical and nature‑driven focus. Early indications suggest a work steeped in Baltic mysticism, wind symbolism, and the interplay between landscape and memory.
Šturmas stands as one of the newest yet most thematically grounded Lithuanian black metal projects, merging cultural identity, historical reflection, and ambient immersion into a cohesive artistic vision.
