Uvikra is a long‑running Lithuanian solo project founded in 2009 by Loikav, a multi‑instrumentalist whose work has consistently pushed beyond the boundaries of black and death metal. What began as a raw, experimental black/death hybrid gradually evolved into a highly individual form of progressive metal and avant‑leaning rock, marked by dense layering, unusual structures, and a strong emphasis on personal expression.
The early phase of Uvikra (2009–2013) was defined by abrasive textures, dissonant riffing, and a restless, exploratory approach to songwriting. The self‑titled debut Uvikra (2010) and the follow‑up EP Patterns of Life (2011) introduced a sound that blended black metal intensity with shifting rhythmic patterns and unconventional melodic phrasing. This period culminated in the full‑lengths Bi (2011) and Fulfill Thee (2013), both of which expanded the project’s progressive tendencies while retaining a harsh, confrontational edge.
After the single Secret Catharsis (2014) and the compilation Obscurity (2015), Uvikra released Traumatic (2016), an album that pushed the project into even more experimental territory. Dense, layered, and psychologically charged, it marked the end of the project’s first era before Uvikra went silent in 2017.
Uvikra resurfaced in 2022 with Lost Memento MMXIX, signaling a shift toward a more progressive, atmospheric, and rock‑oriented sound. The 2023 albums Elapsed and Comfort... continued this transformation, emphasizing mood, texture, and introspective songwriting over the harsher elements of the early years. This second era of Uvikra is defined by clarity of vision and a willingness to abandon genre boundaries entirely.
Throughout its existence, Uvikra has remained a deeply personal project—insular, experimental, and unconcerned with trends. Loikav’s work across the discography forms a continuous thread of evolution, documenting a shift from raw extremity to reflective, progressive expression.
