Winds of War is a raw and atmospheric black metal/ambient project founded in 2024 in Rokiškis, later extending its activity into the broader Panevėžys region. Conceived and executed entirely by the prolific multi‑instrumentalist Wand3rer, the project channels a distinctly Lithuanian form of pagan black metal—cold, primitive, and steeped in the imagery of forests, medieval warfare, and occult mysticism. Its sound merges harsh, lo‑fi black metal with spacious ambient passages, creating a sonic landscape that evokes abandoned fortresses, forgotten battlefields, and the spiritual desolation of the Baltic wilderness.

From its inception, Winds of War aligned itself with the uncompromising ethos of the Lithuanian underground. The project’s early demos—Spirit of Darkness, Drawn to Whispering Oaks, and Unrest in the Baltics (all released in 2025)—established a consistent aesthetic: icy tremolo riffs, distant shrieks, ritualistic ambience, and a thematic focus on pagan memory, medieval violence, and the metaphysics of darkness. These recordings circulated primarily through Forgotten Graveyard Productions, a label known for supporting raw, unfiltered Baltic black metal.

Each demo explores a different facet of Wand3rer’s vision. Spirit of Darkness leans into occult atmospheres and nocturnal ambience, while Drawn to Whispering Oaks emphasizes nature mysticism and the spiritual presence of ancient forests. Unrest in the Baltics introduces a more militant tone, reflecting historical conflict and regional upheaval through harsher riffing and a more aggressive vocal approach.

The project’s evolution continues with the 2026 demo Woods of Total Destruction, which pushes further into war‑ridden ambience and bleak, misanthropic black metal. The release showcases Wand3rer’s increasingly refined ability to merge atmospheric soundscapes with raw aggression, creating a sense of total immersion in a world of chaos, ruin, and pagan defiance.

Winds of War also reflects Wand3rer’s deep entanglement with the Lithuanian underground. His involvement in numerous projects—ranging from black metal (Kraujo Reichas, Saints of Lucifer) to punk‑infused extremity (Alkohomania, Rampage) to experimental or noise‑leaning acts (SiaubaSS, Hašas)—informs the project’s eclectic yet cohesive sound. This background gives Winds of War a uniquely feral energy, blending traditional black metal with the abrasive spontaneity of Lithuania’s DIY scene.

Though still early in its lifespan, Winds of War has already carved out a distinct identity: raw, atmospheric, pagan, and unrelentingly dark, rooted in the Baltic land and its mythic, violent past.
