Dreg K was a short‑lived but strikingly individualistic project operating between Belgrade and Berlin, active from 2023 to 2025. Emerging from the rawest fringes of the Serbian underground, the project fused primitive black metal with punk abrasiveness, lo‑fi aesthetics, and an intentionally confrontational sense of minimalism. Dreg K’s sound was defined by jagged riffing, distorted bass presence, and a vocal approach that leaned more toward expressionistic outbursts than traditional black metal shrieks. The project’s abstract thematic focus—eschewing narrative clarity in favor of impressionistic, symbolic, and often cryptic imagery—reinforced its outsider identity.

The two EPs released in 2024, DevojaÄŤki grob and Hypnaborea, capture the project’s evolution from raw, punk‑infused black metal toward a more hypnotic, dream‑distorted sound. DevojaÄŤki grob is the harsher of the two, steeped in claustrophobic riffs and a gritty, almost urban bleakness. Hypnaborea, by contrast, leans into surreal atmospheres and trance‑like repetition, hinting at the stylistic direction that would later define the successor project Gvozdena Nychta. Both releases were issued through the underground label Lummox Wald, known for supporting experimental and abrasive black metal expressions.

Dreg K’s relocation to Berlin marked a shift in both sound and identity. By 2025, the project formally transformed into Gvozdena Nychta, retaining the rawness of its origins but expanding into more atmospheric, dream‑warped territory. This transition reflects the artistic trajectory of its sole member, Vinka Mrtvaluć, whose work across multiple projects—including OAUA the Hex—demonstrates a consistent interest in liminality, abstraction, and the dissolution of genre boundaries.

Though brief in lifespan, Dreg K left behind a compact but distinctive body of work that resonates with listeners drawn to the abrasive, experimental edge of Balkan black metal. Its legacy continues through Gvozdena Nychta, where the project’s raw foundations have been reinterpreted into a new, more expansive form.
