Ljuska (“Husk”) is one of the most distinctive modern black metal projects to emerge from Vojvodina, founded in 2015 by the prolific multi‑instrumentalist Sifr Shraddha. From the beginning, Ljuska has embodied a stark, ascetic vision of black metal—minimalist yet atmospheric, spiritually severe yet emotionally charged. The project’s identity revolves around themes of death, devotion, inner dissolution, and the shedding of the self, reflected both in its name and its sonic architecture.

Ljuska’s early material, including the 2017 single Husks of Light and the full‑length Vessel of the Void, established a sound built on cold, hypnotic riffing, ritualistic rhythms, and vocals that oscillate between anguish and meditative restraint. The music is raw but never careless—its lo‑fi edges serve the thematic core, evoking a sense of spiritual erosion and ascetic transformation. The 2018 EP The Nox Harbinger deepened this atmosphere, pushing further into nocturnal, introspective territory.

The project’s evolution culminated in the 2022 full‑length Thanatanamnesis, a work that blends harsh black metal with ambient textures and philosophical weight. The album explores memory, death, and the dissolution of identity, marking Ljuska’s most mature and conceptually unified release to date. Its reception in the underground was strong, praised for its sincerity, atmosphere, and uncompromising artistic direction.

Ljuska’s presence extends beyond studio recordings. The project has appeared on several compilations, including the Serbian Black Metal Compilation (2017) and Pathways to Damnation II (2022), helping to cement its place within the contemporary Serbian black metal landscape.

While Sifr Shraddha remains the creative nucleus, the project expanded its lineup in 2023–2024 to support live performances and broaden its sonic palette. This includes members from related projects such as Order of the Black Skull, Plamen Večnosti, Todesfall, and Praznina—creating a small but potent constellation of interconnected underground acts.

Ljuska stands today as a disciplined, spiritually charged force within Serbian black metal—devoted to the path of inner death, transformation, and the shedding of all that is unnecessary.
