Ludus Umbrarum (“a game of shadows” in Latin) is a young but rapidly developing symphonic black metal project from Bor, founded in 2024 by multiāinstrumentalist Nino ÄuriÄ. Despite its recent formation, the project has already established a clear aesthetic identity: dramatic, orchestral black metal steeped in themes of darkness, shadowārealms, and occult atmospheres. The music blends traditional black metal aggression with sweeping symphonic arrangements, cinematic textures, and a strong melodic backbone.
From the outset, Ludus Umbrarum has been unusually prolific. The project debuted with two singles in 2024āProgenies of Darkness and No Dawn Shall Riseāboth showcasing a polished, theatrical sound that stands out within the Serbian scene. These early tracks combine fast tremolo riffing and harsh vocals with layered orchestration, evoking influences from classic symphonic black metal while maintaining a personal, modern edge.
In 2025, the project accelerated its output with multiple singles (Through the Black Realms, Her Screams from Depths) and two fullālength albums: Reveria Umbrarum in Tenebris and Requiem Umbrae. This level of productivity reflects both the project’s studioādriven nature and Nino ÄuriÄ’s role as a sole composer, performer, and producer. His approach emphasizes atmosphere and narrative flow, with each release exploring different facets of shadow, night, and metaphysical darkness.
Signed to Darkside Records, Ludus Umbrarum is positioned to become one of the more prominent new symphonic black metal acts from Serbia, especially given its ambitious release schedule and strong sense of stylistic direction.
