Névoa is an atmospheric and avant‑garde black metal project from Porto, formed in 2014 by João Freire and Nuno Craveiro, who together compose and perform all studio instrumentation. The project takes its name from the Portuguese word for mist, a fitting metaphor for its sound: opaque, drifting, and shaped by themes of darkness, solitude, and nature. From the beginning, Névoa positioned itself at the intersection of atmospheric black metal and experimental expression, favoring long, immersive compositions that move between raw intensity and meditative stillness.

Their debut single Below a Celestial Abyss (2014) introduced this aesthetic with a minimalist, introspective approach, soon expanded on the full‑length The Absence of Void (2015), a work noted for its bleak emotional weight and spacious, textured arrangements. The follow‑up Re Un (2016) pushed further into avant‑garde territory, incorporating dissonance, ritualistic pacing, and a more exploratory compositional structure. By this period, the band had begun performing live with an expanded lineup, including bassist Ivo Madeira and keyboardist Miguel BĂ©co, allowing the project’s dense studio atmosphere to be translated into a powerful stage presence.

Névoa continued to evolve with the single Pale and Frail, He Stands (2017) and later with Towards Belief (2020), an album that refined their balance between atmospheric immersion and avant‑garde experimentation. The record deepened their focus on emotional desolation and natural mysticism, while maintaining the raw, organic production that characterizes their sound. Their most recent release, the EP Rudimental Harmony (2023), presents a more distilled and introspective form of their style, emphasizing texture, mood, and the interplay between melody and dissonance.

Across their discography, Névoa has remained a project defined by atmosphere, experimentation, and emotional austerity, crafting music that feels both intimate and vast, rooted in the solitude of nature and the shadows of the self.
