Satanic Winter

Satanic Winter emerges as one of the coldest, most atmospheric, and most conceptually unified new entities in the Paraguayan underground—a project born in Luque in 2024 and shaped entirely by Varknar, whose creative signature already defines Nangrad and his self‑titled work. Here, however, he channels a different current: a fusion of raw black metal and dungeon synth, steeped in vampiric nocturnality, lycanthropic myth, and the frozen solitude of winter landscapes.

The project feels like a deliberate descent into a more primitive, ritualistic, and medieval darkness—less melodic than Nangrad, more atmospheric than Varknar, and fully committed to a world of moonlit forests, cursed bloodlines, and nocturnal rites.

Identity and Conceptual Focus

Satanic Winter’s thematic world is built around three pillars:

These themes place the project in a lineage of black metal that embraces folklore, nocturnal mysticism, and solitary ritual—yet filtered through Varknar’s unmistakable melodic instincts.

The dungeon synth component is not decorative; it functions as the project’s atmospheric backbone, creating a sense of frozen desolation and medieval gloom.

Musical Style

Satanic Winter blends two traditions:

Black Metal

Dungeon Synth

The fusion creates a sound that feels like wandering through a frozen ruin under a blood‑red moon—ritualistic, melancholic, and steeped in occult winter imagery.

Compared to Nangrad, the music is less melodic and more atmospheric; compared to Varknar’s solo work, it is more ambient and mythic.

Discography and Creative Burst

Despite being newly formed, Satanic Winter debuted with two releases in 2024, both of which establish the project’s aesthetic with clarity.

Knights of the Blackcult — Demo (2024)

A raw, vampyric invocation. The demo introduces the project’s core identity: cold riffs, dungeon synth atmospheres, and a medieval, nocturnal aura. The title suggests a secret order of vampiric or occult warriors, setting the tone for the project’s mythic direction.

Land of Desolation — Demo (2024)

A more atmospheric and expansive work. The dungeon synth elements take a stronger role, creating a landscape of frozen ruins and eternal night. This release deepens the project’s worldbuilding and emotional tone.

Both demos feel like chapters in a larger mythos—an unfolding winter narrative shaped by solitude, transformation, and nocturnal hunger.

Membership and Creative Structure

Satanic Winter is a one‑man project, entirely composed and performed by:

Varknar — Everything (2024–present)

Also active in:

His involvement ensures a consistent melodic sensibility, even within the project’s rawer, more atmospheric framework. Satanic Winter represents a different facet of his creative identity—colder, more ritualistic, and more steeped in mythic darkness.

Position in the Paraguayan Underground

Satanic Winter occupies a unique niche:

The project’s emergence in 2024 suggests the beginning of a new atmospheric current within Paraguayan black metal—one shaped by solitude, winter mysticism, and nocturnal transformation.
